These past couple of weeks have been incredibly crazy, and things should be winding down by Wednesday. Phew! Basically, all of my classes put huge demands on me (papers, midterms, etc.) that were stressful enough on their own... all at the same time. So I had a midterm in Mission Prep, a huge takehome midterm for Shakespeare, a midterm in French (which I was woefully unprepared for), another take home midterm in Tolkien, and a 14 page paper due (used to be) Friday for my Lit Crit class. Thankfully, my teacher for LC decided that it was not fair to withhold an extra day for us to finish our papers, and so it is actually due tomorrow, which took a HUGE load of stress off of me!
Last week, Kyle and I went up to Temple Square in Salt Lake to meet one of his best friends. It was a very nice night, actually. We double dated, and we went up to the Garden Court for dinner, and then afterward, we wandered around the grounds before we went to see a concert in the Assembly Hall. It was either that or seeing the Joseph Smith movie - which I kinda wish we did, because the movie was much better than the concert. What nobody told us about the concert was that it was an orchestra of players aged 14-18, and I had seen enough high school concerts to think, "Oh, dear. I hope this isn't a mistake." Thankfully, and quite surprisingly, they were very good. My only qualms were that there were far too many slow pieces, and Kyle fell asleep. I think that the conductor could have chosen much more challenging pieces, because the orchestra definitely had enough talent to pull off any Beethoven and still make it sound good. Meh. Oh, well. Can't be bothered now.
This past weekend certainly hasn't been quite as exciting as others, but I'll attribute that to these stupid midterms. Kyle was super busy studying, and I've been spending all day writing this crazy stupid paper. It doesn't even have the decency to be on a subject I like! Seriously - Melville... he's a genius and all, I'll give him that, but I just don't appreciate his writing style! It's too heavy and weighty and wordy. Reading his stories is like reading a dictionary. My only motivation for writing this paper, now, is that it will all be done and over with by TOMORROW! That is... as long as I pull off a decent grade that it won't be necessary to rewrite it... I expect I'll know by next Friday, and I'll be able to confidently say that I'll never have to look at Melville ever again in my college career... but don't count your chickens before they hatch!
Actually, at one point yesterday, I took a break from my paper to go to my Uncle Dale's birthday party, which was awesome. I got to see family members that I haven't seen for almost a year, and it was sure nice to see them again... not to mention a well deserved break.
Today (Sunday) was a fabulous day! We had an awesome Sacrament meeting was beautiful because this girl returned from her mission and gave a talk on that. I felt like it was really relevant to what I'm going through, because at one point, she said that we need to have faith because we cannot see what's ahead of us. However, God does, and trusting in him will help us through our lives. Then a stake official got up and spoke about agency. I drew a picture in my notes. It's a lovely picture, especially considering that I only had a pen to work with. Ink drawings. LOVE IT.
Then I taught a lesson in Relief Society. We discussed sleep (D&C 88:124) and how following the commandment within that scripture can bless our lives. Going to bed early and waking up early gives us the opportunity to start the day of with God, and doing that can work miracles for the rest of our day. And it really does! This past week, I've been getting up super early (after having gone to bed by at least midnight) to pray in the morning, and I was able to read my scriptures and everything, and it's made a huge difference in my week. I especially think that my professor's delaying the paper was a miracle because I was following this, and it sure is an incentive to follow it now. If setting aside just 10 minutes for God in the morning can make that much of a difference for the whole week, why is it that I don't do it all the time? There's a reason God gives us commandments. It's not to hinder us, but it's to bless us in every way possible.
Hannah and Brandon invited Kyle and me over for dinner tonight, and I'm way excited, because that means that I'm gonna play with Naomi all night! Yay! Then I'm going to get back on my paper at some time after midnight, finish it, dump it on the teacher's table when class starts, and never look at it again.
I love my life!
