Kyle's b-day and General Conference

Well, it seems that now I'm bloggging again, pretty much every weekend is a fantastic weekend. I don't know how that works, because we usually sit at home like sloths and do nothing, but you wouldn't be able to tell from my blog...

Kyle had a fantastic birthday. I failed making him breakfast because I simply am not a morning person, but I think I managed to make up for the rest of the day. For lunch, we went to this pizza and sub restaurant called Zubs. Kinda like Subway, but with better bread and better sandwiches and better, well, quality. It's also twice as expensive, so we don't go there all that often, though we would love to!

After lunch, we opened presents. Actually, I hid all the presents and then sent Kyle on a scavenger hunt. It's a little thing his family did, and I absolutely love it! It will certainly save on the wrapping paper, at least. :) He got The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, a football, and a new game called Dominion. His old roommate recently bought the game (and all the expansions), and Kyle's been hooked ever since. We played a few games together, and then again yesterday.

Kyle's haul
After presents, and once I finished Kyle's birthday cake and set it out to cool, we went up to Provo for dinner with Rachel. She was gracious enough to pay for our dinner at the Canon Center, and we stuffed ourselves on all of its mighty and exquisite foods. Afterwards, since it was still light out, we went for a walk around campus. Currently, BYU is tearing down Heritage Halls (sob), but they have not yet taken down the buildings either of us lived in. (Personally, I think they should have torn down Helaman Halls, because no one cares about those buildings, right?) Also, they're also working on the new science building that Kyle very well might be working in if he's accepted. It's looking great so far, but it will be sad to see the Widstoe building get demolished since I have so many happy memories hanging out in Kyle's labs. It also smelled really bad because his lab was right next to the incubators, stuffed to the brim with E. Coli and other such bacteria, yum!

We couldn't eat the cake when we got back, though. We were still too full from dinner. And it was so wonderful, too! I even made Kyle's favorite cake in cheesecake form: white chocolate raspberry cheesecake!

Before it was baked.

Cutting the cake
Then Saturday/Sunday: General Conference! Yay! I loved it. Also, first two women to pray in General Conference, anyone? (I think Kyle was more excited about that milestone than I was. I didn't even notice. I just wished the prayer wouldn't go on for so long.) This was our first General Conference together, now that Kyle's quit his job and doesn't have to sleep during the day anymore. I also learned that there are many things we did differently growing up during General Conference. My mother taught us to listen attentively to the talks and to take copious notes (either that, I took notes to help me concentrate so Mom wouldn't have to glare at me for not paying attention). Kyle, on the other hand, listened to General Conference on the radio while they were outside gardening (on Saturday) or inside playing "reverent" games. Very bizarre.

Sunday, we made Dutch Babies for breakfast. Very yummy. Around lunch time, we picked up Rachel, Jodie, and Becky (remember Kyle's cousin I talked about?) to watch the last session of conference and afterwards have dinner together. It was a hit. Kyle got some other people to play Dominion with while I got the lasagna ready. It was very fun.

My favorite talk this weekend was Elder Holland. He always manages to say exactly what I need to hear.

Strange how different our memories are. Rachel was always the note-taker, and she must have rubbed off on you. Me, never! I liked to go to the church so we wouldn't be distracted, also if we watched at home, there were always problems with the computer. So you would all take blankets and drawing stuff and snacks and party in the dark in the chapel. I certainly don't call all that glaring!

There weren't any radio or TV stations that carried conference out here in TX, so that's another reason we were kind of limited on how we watched conference.

Mom's memories of conference are similar to mine.

Your cheesecake turned out beautiful. The one I made for Taylor's birthday was really tall, but then it fell. At least I had it stuffed in between two layers of cake. Was that your first cheesecake you made?
