Of Flutes and Families and Western Movies

So I looked to see when the last time I posted was, and I realized it was almost two weeks ago! So I better get crackalackin'!

Last weekend we spent up in Brigham City/BYU-I. Kyle's sister Sarah had a senior recital and a whole lot of the family went up to support her, including Jodie who is often quite busy, she rarely makes it out to our house 20 minutes away! I was quite pleased to catch up with everybody.

I also got a chance to get to know Kyle's Aunt Pam and Uncle Mark and their little hive of boys (and girl, who I already know fairly well since she lives in Provo). Admittedly, it's quite difficult to get to know his extended family since we always seem to meet each other at huge family reunions, and Kyle's dad's side is nearly as large as my mom's side. It's a little easier to remember their names, though, since their names don't overlap all that much (except for Mike and Mark - I get confused between them quite frequently). Like the grandma Barbaras and uncle Bobs and aunt Linda/Lisas. Not to mention all the baby cousins I never got to know growing up. Sheesh. Just thinking about it is making me confused.

Anyways, I meant for that paragraph to talk about how much I got to spend some one-on-one time with that particular family, and how much fun I had there, but it sort of got away from me.

Sarah's recital was a hit. So was the opera she played in the night before. Actually, I didn't much like the opera. It was slow and boring, and all I could think about was my sore tush and how hard the seats were. The opera was Tartuffe which is also an excellent French play, but I'm afraid its opera counterpart did not live up to Moliere's masterpiece. I was slightly disappointed. The problem with it is that the original plot line was not deep enough or long enough to be converted into an opera, and so it was rather shallow and drawn out. I don't feel like explaining what it was about, so here you go.

(I do enjoy a good opera, though! I saw The Magic Flute and Les Contes d'Hoffmann! They were good!)

The recital was awesome. I never realized the flute could be so amazing. I mean, Mom plays it and I know it's a lovely instrument, but it's hard to appreciate if every other girl you know plays the flute, and you've never heard it playing amazingly complicated and beautiful pieces. I now have a proper appreciation of the instrument, though. Thank you, Sarah.

Easter Sunday was fun. We spent it sending Kyle's parents on a hunt instead of the other way around. Funny thing about it, I don't think they quite got the memo. They knew there was going to be an Easter egg hunt, but I don't think they knew they would be the ones to go hunting. As soon as we finished hiding the eggs, we came back inside to get them, only to find out they'd gone to take their naps. We waited an hour for them to wake up, worrying that the chocolate would melt, before we got them started on their search, haha! It was fun, though. They spent the first half of the hunt saying how easy it was and why couldn't we have hid them in less obvious places before they realized that only half of the eggs were hidden in obvious places. They did pretty well, though! They found 49 of 50 eggs!

Monday morning we came back home and just relaxed in our wonderful bed. That night, I watched my first rated R movie (oops?) with a borrowed copy of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, which is actually not that violent. The whole time, I thought I was watching a PG-13 movie, and after the movie was over, I looked at the box to see what year it was produced and noticed it was rated R. Guess the US rating system isn't all that reliable, after all. It was a wonderful movie, though Clint Eastwood was quite a bit more silent of a character than I expected.

I was so relieved at the end that Eastwood didn't kill my favorite character Tuco. Tuco was full of some fun quotes through the whole movie. (My favorite is the last one.)

Also, this song
is awesome!

Well, Kyle's birthday is tomorrow! Also, we haven't found out about BYU, yet, but we're still hoping. Kyle got an email yesterday that made us nervous all over again, that they would let us know the final outcome by April 17. Keep your fingers crossed! (Frankly, I'm more excited at the prospect of makin' babies than I am for Kyle to go back to school, but it's a close tie. I really do want him to get into school again.)

Happy Spring Break! Gosh, but I've missed those.

P.S. I've been making tons of spelling errors typing this, so if I missed a few, I apologize.
