Yesterday, after I posted about the crazy chicken yodeler, I read back on a few of my previous posts, and I realized that I have two posts in a row that mention that I am insanely bored. I promise I am not. Despite all blog evidence to the contrary, I am not always sitting like a slug at home because I can't do anything to entertain myself.
I suppose I should mention that I am a teacher now! After years of acquaintances asking whether or not I would go into teaching with my English major, and my insistence that I would never be caught dead as a teacher, I have finally caved in. I would rather be an editor, strangely enough, but that is an explanation for another time.
I'm an orchestra teacher! Yeah, that's right. I spent four years studying English and French only to take a job in music... Huh?
I play the viola. I have for many years now, since sixth grade. I didn't expect much to come of it since I was mostly entertaining the viola as a hobby, but when I saw the job application, I thought to myself, "Meh, why not?" It didn't require a teaching certificate, and there was little chance I would get it, but what did I have to lose?
Two days later, I had the job. It was all rather quick, and I think that they were a little desperate to get the position filled in since they needed a teacher badly. A week later, I was introduced to the kids.
I teach sixth grade beginning orchestra, and since sixth grade in Utah is part of elementary schools, we meet in the mornings before school starts. It's been a blast. I didn't expect to like it so much because I didn't think I could be a good teacher, not to mention SIXTH GRADERS ARE CRUEL, but they've been absolutely phenomenal. Sure, sometimes they're a pain in the butt, but they play so well and they are so eager to learn. It's infectious. (Still, I don't think I'll ever have the bravery to be an English teacher. I've decided I'm not much one for leading discussions.)
I meant to let you know how my day went. I went to teach orchestra, came home and cleaned the windows since mold was growing in the tracks and giving Kyle a whole lot of grief. Then I cross-stitched, exercised, cleaned the fish, and applied for another job. I could use another job. An hour of orchestra isn't enough to fill the rest of my day.
Also, while exercising today, I have finally achieved the crow pose! Yay!

How long have you been working on it? Good job!
I know what you mean about leading discussions.
