We spent all last week packing up our stuff. It didn't help that I'd also developed a cold from Kyle (thanks, honey!) that only got worse because of all the dust. There was a time when I only got sick once a year, but that was before I married Kyle and before I started working with children. Thankfully, the cold abated when we started to actually move stuff from our old apartment to our new one, because on Thursday, there was no telling where that Kleenex box went off to!
You wouldn't believe how much stuff we had! When we got married, we took about three carloads to transfer all of our stuff to our new apartment. This time, not including the furniture, our stuff took up 7-8 carloads. I think we could have easily filled up a U-haul no problem, except that we didn't anticipate us needing one. I'm so grateful for our friends and family who helped us move. We definitely could not have done it without them!
On Friday, we went back to our old apartment to clean. It took half the day, and we were so exhausted. Nevertheless, boxes don't unpack themselves, and we came home to this:
It was madness. We could barely walk anywhere. By the time dinner came around, we'd barely made a dent into anything. However - and I can't say this enough - thank goodness for friends! Kyle's cousin Jared and his wife Rachel invited us over for dinner because of this madness, and we had a lovely dinner of homemade corndogs and spelt salad. So yummy! And it was such a relief to us. We'll have to repay them in kind since they will also be moving in a couple of months to a larger apartment. (They're having a baby boy soon!)
I also have to say, thank goodness for the little blessings! If we had moved on Friday, we wouldn't have had a decently clean apartment and unpacked kitchen in time for Sunday. I don't think I could have handled it. Because we moved on Thursday, we were able to have all day Saturday to unpack and get situated and figure out internet and such. (Speaking of which, we don't have internet to our PC. We have wireless, but the router is in one of the other apartments, and we don't have access to it to plug in our computer. I miss my PC!)
But this is how our apartment looks, now!
It's still a little cluttered, but it's so much better, now! Also, Kyle doesn't want to find a new (not permanent) home for our love seat. It's crowded, but he doesn't seem to care.
We've definitely downsized in kitchen space, but that's what we get for having lived in an apartment with an amazing kitchen. It's our own darn fault.
Also, the water heater is crazy. We've had one hot shower in the time we've been here. All other times, it's been freezing cold, and it takes me half the day to warm back up again. And when I did the dishes, I had to warm up the water on the stove and pour it into the sink because the water refuses to get warm. Sad day.
But, welcome home, Jensens! It's a wonderful place, and I love it!
P.S. At our old place, we were quite happy to say goodbye to these two things...
...these vacuums! (The red one was acting finicky, so we bought the black one, but it wasn't as nice as our dustdevil, and we also got a free one that was completely broken. Our dustdevil seems to be working fine, now, so we left the black one behind for the new tenants and completely threw away the broken one.)
And goodbye to this creepy doll! It's always watching......

Glad you are getting settled. You brought back memories of our first move. I think I'll blog about it!
Yay! This place looks perfect for you guys! Although the water situation is not ideal...is it always gonna be that way?
Glad you're all moved in! It looks great!
