Boomerangs and salt water and Kyle has an interview!

Hey all! I've had a very long weekend chock full of exciting stuff, but I had no access to a computer in all that time, so this is going to be a rather fun post. So sorry if I ramble.

First of all: I got my wisdom teeth out! After a year or so of postponing it because of money issues, I finally hunkered down and got it done. We still have money issues, but these past couple of weeks, I have been going through a lot of pain on account of them, so Kyle pushed me to get them extracted. I'm really glad we did, even though there could have been a better time and place... such as when I was preparing for my mission and my parents could have gotten me fully covered on it? I've been feeling a little bitter towards the dentist who told me my wisdom teeth would never be a problem, because they certainly were a problem!

Anyways, the procedure went great! I was awake the whole time, and it wasn't too terrible. The worst part of it all was when they were giving me shots to numb me up, but other than that, it was wonderfully relaxing, even though I knew they were yanking out my teeth. I'd heard so many horror stories about it that I kind of wished that I could have gone under (like you can hear the bone crunch and other such freaky noises), but after they let me go, I was very glad I didn't. Since my insurance wouldn't cover sedation, I feel it would have been a complete waste of money if I had taken it. Besides, I enjoyed walking out of the dentist office being in complete control of my faculties. Also, being completely numb is really strange.

After my wisdom teeth came out, Kyle and I headed up to Brigham City to visit his parents since I didn't have school on Friday. They proceeded to torture me with names such as "chipmunk cheeks" even though I was barely swollen (honestly!) and eating chips, popcorn, and other such deliciousness forbidden to me. Not really, but I enjoy over-exaggerating. It's fun!

Friday, Kyle and I watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang since we don't have that movie and it's not available anywhere except for your parent's homes. Seriously, the only place you can possibly get it is on Netflix if you can afford to have it. That's the only place that will rent you movies. I really wish Hollywood Videos and Blockbuster were around. I miss those places. Redbox, Netflix Instant, Amazon Prime, and Hulu don't really offer any old movies for you to watch. Video rentals have really gone down the drain since they moved to the internet. Sorry for the tangent.

Kevin spent half his day golfing with a friend, and once he got back, we all went out to learn how to throw boomerangs. It's much harder than it looks! You'd think all you need to do it throw it and it comes right back to you. Turns out, you have to take the direction of the wind into account, how hard to throw it, and the angle you throw it at in order to get a successful throw. Even then, after about an hour or so of throwing boomerangs, I never once caught my boomerang, although it did sort of come back in my direction. Kyle was a little more successful than me (he caught his about five or so times). Laura never managed to make hers loop around in a circle. It was rather amusing - it would take off, soar upwards in the sky before it took a dive bomb to the ground. Kevin was the most successful of us all. He made his arc into a beautiful circle, and because he was there, we couldn't blame the boomerangs for being defective - only ourselves, haha. Still, it was a whole lot of fun!

That, by the way, is not the way to hold a boomerang. I tried that a couple of times and was hugely unsuccessful before Kyle told me what I was doing wrong.

Then we all went golfing! We rented a few buckets of golf balls and went to the driving range. Turns out, golfing is a heck of a lot harder than I ever expected. Most of my drives went about ten or twenty yards, although I did get a few go about fifty yards! More often than not, one out of ten swings actually hit the ball. I can't tell you how many times I swung and looked out to see my ball go soaring before I looked back down to see that my golf ball had never even took off in the first place. It was incredibly satisfying, though, when I made a perfect swing and hit the ball out to the first flag. I would like to play an actual round, one of these days. (Also, golf carts are so fun, but freaking scary in a hilly range! I felt like we would topple over the edge the sidewalk and go tumbling down the hill several times! Who knew twenty to thirty miles an hour could ever feel reckless?)

Afterwards, we went to the movies and watched Jack the Giant Slayer, which actually turned out to be a movie about political intrigue and conspiracies and we have to save the kingdom from that evil prince and the giants, we have to save the king's daughter who's got it in her head to be adventurous and her fiance of an evil prince wants to kill her and oh hey, look, it's that farm boy Jack, and he's king now? Also, it had a really lousy ending. I just didn't get any fulfillment with Jack being a "Giant Slayer," which no one ever acknowledged him for doing in the movie. Unfulfilling, indeed. Kyle liked it, though. It had good graphics and a good beginning, I'll give them that. I'll also credit them for never showing any blood (except for an exploding giant), despite the fact you could hear plenty of bone-crunching, lip-smacking goodness. I won't watch it again.

Regardless, it was a fun movie to watch. We got into a huge discussion about it after it ended. Laura agreed with me that Jack never really developed all that much in the movie, and that the ending was a little too abrupt despite the length of the movie. Kyle and Kevin disagreed and said it was really good and they had a fun time about it. We were all relieved we didn't have to watch blood and guts and gore, though.

Then on Saturday, Kyle woke me up early at 7:20 am. I was really grumpy at first, because I'd woken up twice in the night to go to the bathroom and to take some medication for the pain, and I wanted to sleep in properly. But then:

"Jayna, Jayna, guess what?"

"What."

"BYU emailed me! They want me for an interview!"

I was so excited that I couldn't fall back asleep even after he left me. So many schools have already said no to him, and he's been trying to find a job for so long, his applications are more routine now because we don't really expect to hear back from anyone he applies to. So this week, he's taking a break from job applications and instead is going to spend a lot of time studying and refreshing himself on everything he thinks they might talk about during the interview. I'm so proud of my husband!

So, yeah! Fun weekend! Still wish we could have gone to California and celebrate Grandpa's birthday. It looks as if it was a lot of fun! Maybe soon, if everything works out with a job or a school, it would be so nice to be able to spend that kind of money.

Till next time! I'll be over here taking care of my teeth and gargling salt water until everything heals up nicely.
